Newfoundland and Labrador Day Celebrations
Monday, February 8th of 2010
The provincial government has announced local plans to celebrate Newfoundland and Labrador Day at the Vancouver 2010 Olympics. Four regional celebration events will take place on Friday, February 26th, which has been designated Newfoundland and Labrador Day at the Olympics. Tourism Culture and Recreation Minister Terry French says family-friendly events are planned in St. John's, Gander, Corner Brook and Happy Valley-Goose Bay. French says there'll be live entertainment and a live feed of Newfoundland and Labrador's Victory Celebration Showcase preceding that day's medal ceremonies at BC Place in Vancouver, which will be hosted by Shaun Majumder. Performances scheduled for the 30-minute showcase will include Hey Rosetta!, The Irish Descendents, Ron Hynes, Tara Oram, and the Nunatsiavut Drum Dancers.
